Yoga has many types and categories but we are just going to look into the major and commonly used ones because others were only taught by old yoga teachers and it is believed that no one in this 21 century uses of them again. so lets take you through the major types of Yoga, as they are listed and explained below:

1, Vinyasa Yoga: The  word 'Vinyasa' means linking breath with movement. this type of yoga is mainly taught and practiced in the gyms or studious. The aim of the postures is to involve a flowing sequence, The fluid movements can be memorized and done as a moving meditation, almost like a dance. This type of yoga comes from sensual movements, pleasant music, usually (but not always) practiced in a dark room, or sometimes by candlelight and with the eyes closed.

2. Ashtanga Yoga: Ashtanga means “eight limbs” and encompasses a yogic lifestyle. Most people identify Ashtanga as traditional Indian yoga. Like Vinyasa yoga, the Ashtanga yoga asanas (postures) synchronize breath with movement as you move through a series of postures. This yoga is done in complete silence.

3. Iyengar yoga: This type focuses on finding the correct alignment in each pose using a range of props, such as blocks, blankets, straps, chairs, and bolsters.

4. Bikram Yoga: Also known as "hot" yoga, Bikram occurs in artificially heated rooms at temperatures of nearly 105 degrees and 40 percent humidity. It consists of 26 poses and a sequence of two breathing exercises.

5. Power Yoga: In the late 1980s, practitioners developed this active and athletic type of yoga, based on the traditional ashtanga system.

6. Yin Yoga: This is a quiet, meditative yoga practice, also called taoist yoga. Yin yoga allows the release of tension in key joints, including:

 - the ankles
 - knees
 -  hips
 - the whole back
 - neck
 - shoulders

Yin poses are passive, meaning that gravity shoulders most of the force and effort.
